California: Big Losses for Pot Legalization Movement

Two more jurisdictions in California recently voted to not allow marijuana dispensaries in their communities. Last week voters strongly rejected pot distribution for “medical” purposes in  Yucca Valley.  The city of Riverside recently beat back marijuana, too.

The vote to ban medical marijuana dispensaries was  slightly under 60% in Yucca Valley, and slightly over 60% in Riverside.

Cannabis industry groups and the marijuana lobby have spread a message that nationwide legalization is inevitable.  If that rumor is a tactic to stifle opposition, quite the opposite is happening.  Continue reading California: Big Losses for Pot Legalization Movement

4 Die from California BHO Lab Fires, 32 in 2014

One of 5 men injured in the butane honey oil explosion April 13 has died, bringing the total of BHO deaths in California this year to 4.  It happened in Redding.  On Wednesday night, two more people burned in a BHO fire in an RV park in Redding, with one victim burned on 84% of his body.

Raise the Age of Medical Marijuana to Save Brains

The Seattle Times calls on raising the age to buy tobacco products from 18 to age 21, but it’s more urgent that  “medical” marijuana be added to the substances with age limits.  Teen admissions to substance abuse treatment have skyrocketed, and marijuana is the most common substance for which they are seeking treatment.  The advent of e-cigarettes and vape pens has made this consideration very urgent.

In Colorado, 18-20-year olds easily obtain doctors’ recommendations to use pot and give or sell this “medical” marijuana to even younger children.  Clearing the Haze, a 4-part, 18-article series in The Gazette, a Colorado Springs newspaper, gives insight how medical marijuana card holders end up selling to children.  As much as 75% of the “medical” marijuana in Oregon is sold on the black market. The Other Side of Cannabis Screened at SLO Festival

The Other Side of Cannabis: Negative Effects of Marijuana on Our Youth  will  be screened at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival on Wednesday, March 11, 7 pm.   On April 9, the film’s producer will screen a segment from the film and speak at the SAM Summit in Atlanta, as a part of the National Rx Drug Abuse Summit.

Marijuana eduction is profoundly lacking.  Today’s marijuana is not what it used to be, but the perception is that it is a safe, natural substance with no side effects. This ground-breaking film—which illustrates the potential negative effects, can  be used by drug educators, schools, prevention groups, addiction treatment centers, psychiatrists, psychologists and other medical.
