Advertising drives higher youth use of marijuana in legalization states

In states where recreational marijuana is legal, adolescents ages 12 to 17 reported a 25% higher increase than in states without legalized cannabis.  The spike in marijuana usage that came with legalization is most dramatic among young people, and advertising probably drives the increase.

The unstated goals of the legalization movement – seen in the billboards, push polls, lobbying, political donations and empty promises – are making money and increasing usage. Continue reading Advertising drives higher youth use of marijuana in legalization states

Cannabis during pregnancy may cause mental health issues in children

Mental health is the buzzword of today. Children whose mothers used cannabis during pregnancy may develop attention and behavioral problems around ages 11 and 12. The findings come from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study, also called the ABCD Study.  Scientists at Washington University analyzed data and published their findings in JAMA Pediatrics last month.

Considering that prenatal cannabis use increased from 3 % to 7 % between 2002 and 2017, the warnings against pot use for pregnant women need to get stronger.  (The first two states voted to legalize pot in 2012, and now that number stands at 19 states.)  While mental health problems in youth are growing, it’s shocking that states follow policies that increase mental health risks. Marijuana Opponents Debate on Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil will feature our allies, Dr. Kevin Sabet of SAM and Laura Stack,  tomorrow,  Friday, October 21, 2022. James and Charmaine Hays, activists from Compton, CA, who kept the marijuana industry out of Compton will be on TV, too.  Check your local listings for the time and station.

Dr. Phil leads with the question:  Is America too High on Marijuana? https://www.drphil.com/shows/is-america-too-high-on-marijuana/

Laura, founder of Johnny’s Ambassadors, will give testimony that is quite personal.  Her son, Johnny Stack, died by suicide after marijuana-induced psychosis in Colorado.  Laura, a professional speaker, is the author of The Dangerous Truth about Today’s Marijuana.

Dr. Roneet Lev, host of High Truths podcast and Vice President of IASIC, is a San Diego emergency room doctor, will give insight on how the medical field has been impacted by California’s Prop 64.

These panelists for our side, Kevin, Laura and Roneet, will go up against a pro-pot contingent.

Our friends Heidi Anderson-Swan, co-author, A Night in Jail, and Scott Chipman, Vice President of AALM will be in the audience.  Expect them to offer insights, too.

The October 12th episode of Dr. Phil featured Michael Shellenberger debating Senator Scott Wiener about safe consumption sites.  Shellenberger held his ground against Wiener and Maia Szalavitz, a famous harm reductionist and Soros fellow.
