Passing MORE Act means 6,800 more deaths a year
The MORE Act, which may be voted on by the full House this week, would legalize marijuana nationally. But it also could lead to upwards of 6,800 more traffic deaths a year, as well as other problems. Please write Congress to say NO to the MORE Act, and no to MORE deaths. (The MORE Act would go far beyond decriminalization and lead to national legalization.)
A Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) study showed how statistics from the first four states to legalize pot, could be used to estimate the increase of traffic fatalities if we adopted national legalization. These deaths are preventable.
Recent events show how marijuana worms its way out of regulation. Yesterday San Francisco City Council voted to ban smoking in apartment buildings, but excluded marijuana. According to AP: “The original proposal sought to ban residents from smoking marijuana in their apartments, but supervisors voted to exclude marijuana after cannabis activists said the law would take away their only legal place to smoke. It’s illegal under state law to smoke cannabis in public places.”
California residents who voted on Proposition 64 believed that children would not see billboard advertising. However, the industry pushed for it and the industry got it. Fortunately, a judge ruled that the billboards violate the proposition.
Colorado allows billboard advertising for marijuana, but the city of Denver does not. State regulatory bodies give extraordinary privilege to the sellers of this dangerous drug, even though tobacco advertising on billboards is not allowed and even though selling the drug goes against federal law.
Yesterday a marijuana delivery driver was robbed and beaten in Maine. Despite Maine’s small, carefully designed marijuana program, assaults on marijuana deliveries occurred three times. A drug that makes users violent and promises the industry huge profits cannot be “regulated.”

I can say that marijuana can make you very suicidal and sad!
My first time and only time I’ve smoked dabs and marijuana was the time I was pure pressured by my mother and brother.
Back story — I’m really against marijuana due to the fact of this product making people very lazy and not being able to hold a conversation with someone who is high. My mother and brother thought it would’ve been a good thing for me to do so I’m not so judging on someone getting high.
When I smoked marijuana for the first time I did it from a pipe and my mom was like you have to do it a couple times….. hmm?…. how can something be so “healthy” if it burns? Then my brother made me do a dab pen. I could not breathe, I kept coughing, it burned my lungs so bad and they thought it was funny.
My husband was extremely mad at my family once this stuff kicked in. I was so suicidal if someone told me to jump off the roof I would’ve done it in minutes. I could not hear people talking to me due to things zooming up on me.
First I don’t understand how someone can drive or do this every single day.
Second my mom told me that I didn’t feel that way because weed makes you happy.
My brother did the same thing to my 15-year-old sister locked her into the room with him when my parents were sleeping and made her smoke weed. She got really sick and couldn’t go to work the next day and got fired my mother gave her guilt trip saying it wasn’t my brothers fault but hers because she didn’t scream.
Judge’s ruling to end many cannabis billboards in California
A judge’s ruling last week blew the lid off of the deceptive practices of the marijuana legalization program in California. San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Judge Ginger E. Garrett made a ruling that bans certain billboard advertisements. The decision affects the entire state. Hopefully, children will see fewer large signs promoting marijuana.
State officials allowed hundreds of billboards advertising marijuana along California highways, in contrast to voters’ expectations. A 2016 ballot initiative that legalized the sale of pot for recreational use was supposed to ban this type of advertising. Proponents of the ballot gave voters the impression that children wouldn’t see such ads. The Bureau of Cannabis Control, a regulatory agency, violated terms of Proposition 64.
We quote from the Los Angeles Times : “The lawsuit was filed by Matthew Farmer, a San Luis Obispo construction contractor who is father to a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son.
“One of his two attorneys, Stewart Jenkins, said Farmer voted for Proposition 64 in 2016 because he did not think adults should go to jail for smoking pot but was concerned when cannabis ads began appearing along the 101 Freeway traveled by his family.
